ANNETTE BENING

ANNETTE BENING was born in Topeka, Kansas, and raised in San Diego. She was enrolled in a local college when she got a job as a dancer in "The Green Show," presented outside San Diego's famed Old Globe Theatre. This led to a walk-on in a Shakespeare production, this time inside the theater, and two plays with the San Diego Repertory Theatre.

Following graduation from San Francisco State University, Bening trained at the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco, and then joined the acting company. She also appeared in Shakespeare festivals and regional productions.

She received a Tony nomination and won the Clarence Derwent Award for Most Outstanding Debut Performance of the season in "Coastal Disturbances" (originally at the Second Stage, followed by a run on Broadway).

Bening most recently completed a film version of Shakespeare's "Richard III" with Ian McKellen, due for release this Christmas.

Last year, Bening starred in "Love Affair" opposite her husband, Warren Beatty. This was preceded by "Bugsy" in which the actress played Virginia Hill opposite Warren Beatty in the title role. Bening was nominated for an Academy Award for her performance in Stephen Frears' "The Grifters." She also starred in "Guilty By Suspicion" opposite Robert DeNiro, and in Mike Nichols' "Regarding Henry" opposite Harrison Ford. Her other films include Milos Forman's "Valmont," and Mike Nichols' "Postcards From the Edge."
